PROPOSALS FOR CONFERENCE PROGRAM
PRESENTATION
Participating
in this conference will be a great experience for faculty, undergrads, and
graduate students. Whether a
presentation proposal, poster session, or a discussion group, you can showcase
what you have to offer, what you teach, where you excel in research, and what
you want to learn. The conference planning committee would like to see new and
different ideas in venues such as G.I.F.T.S. (Great Ideas for Teaching
Students) sessions on creative classroom practices and activities, research
presentations, posters of an innovative course or project, and/or themed panel
discussions/presentations.
THIS IS A PERFECT TIME TO ADVERVISE:
TABLES FOR GRADUATE SCHOOL DISPLAYS
If
your school would like to have a table or more to highlight your graduate
school, we would love to have many graduate schools represented at this

in electronic format of Microsoft Word (.doc) or .pdf are due June 15, 2013. Please

A. GUIDELINES FOR POSTER SUBMISSIONS
A poster session presentation is to
exhibit the author(s)’ research in order to gain valuable feedback from peers
and senior scholars. The project is displayed on poster board with images and
text. For conference attendees to view and ask questions. There is a judged
competition from the Poster Session for top undergraduates and graduates for
cash prizes announced at the luncheon and or business meeting.
Types of posters accepted for
display are research projects that include the objective, the methods, results,
and conclusion. More than one research project may be on one poster.
To participate in the poster
session, the author(s)’ need to submit the following: title page with heading
of poster submission, project title, author(s)’ name, institution, contact
email and phone number. Separate page of abstract of no more than 250 words.
Third page with plan for how project with be visually displayed.
A
statement of professional responsibility below the abstract that contains the
following:
“In submitting the attached paper, I/we
recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility.
I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional
responsibility. I/We agree to represent this paper if it is accepted and
programmed. I/We further recognize that all who attend and present at OCA”s
annual conference must register and pay required fees.”
Expectations
of the poster session: bring tri-fold or stand alone poster for use on a table
and must be available for audience interaction during the session. Poster will
include title, research question(s), hypothesis, methods, discussion/conclusions/insights,
and references. A list of audio and
visual needs.
B. GUIDELINES FOR PAPER SUBMISSIONS
1. a cover page that includes the
following details: headed as DEBUT if undergraduate or GRADUATE STUDENT if that
is the case, title of paper, author(s)’ university affiliation, contact
information of address, phone, email. A list of audio and visual needs.
2. Separate page for abstract, not to exceed 150 words.
A statement of professional responsibility below the
abstract that contains the following:
“In submitting the attached paper, I/we
recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility.
I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional
responsibility. I/We agree to represent this paper if it is accepted and programmed.
I/We further recognize that all who attend and present at OCA”s annual
conference must register and pay required fees.”
3. A copy of the completed paper, not to exceed 20 pages.
4. OCA will judge undergraduate and
graduate papers for a monetary award; these awards will be presented at the
awards ceremony.
C. GUIDELINES FOR PANEL SUBMISSIONS
1. Expectations
Page 1: title of the panel with a complete list of chair
(required), respondent (required), and participations and contact information
of each. A rationale and description of the panel: goals for the session, need
and suitability for inclusion the program. A list of audio and visual
needs.
Page 2: a title and
abstract for each panel participant’s paper and their job title and school
affiliation.
Page 3: brief paragraph on
each participants’ contribution to the discussion and the general outcomes for
the sessions (what will audience members leave with at the conclusion).

D. GUIDELINES FOR G.I.F.T.S.
SUBMISSIONS
1.G.I.F.T.S. sessions are Great Ideas for Teaching Students. All conference
attendees are welcome to submit activities, assignments, projects, games,
simulations, or assessment techniques that addresses a specific communication
theory, concept skill, or learning objective.
2.
Submission expectation includes: title page with project title, author(s)’
name, institution, contact email and phone with the heading of “GIFTS
submission” and, finally, a copy of the actual assignment. A list of audio and
visual needs.
E. GUIDELINES FOR WORKSHOP SUBMISSIONS
1. Expectations
Page 1: title of the workshop with a complete list of
facilitators and contact information of each.
Page
2: workshop rationale and description: goals, need, suitability, outcomes.
Page 3: brief paragraph of each
workshop participant and how they add to the outcomes. Add any textbooks or
material required for the workshop. Also add a list of audio and visual needs.
2. A statement of professional
responsibility below the abstract that contains the following:
“In submitting the attached paper, I/we
recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility.
I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional
responsibility. I/We agree to represent this paper if it is accepted and
programmed. I/We further recognize that all who attend and present at OCA”s
annual conference must register and pay required fees.”
CALL FOR OFFICER NOMINATIONS
We are accepting nominations for the
following offices: Southwest, Northeast, and Central Representatives (2-year terms),
Graduate Student Representatives (1-year term; must be a graduate student for
the 2014-2015 School year), and Undergraduate Representatives (1-year term;
must be an undergraduate student for the 2014-2015 school year). Current
representatives of Southwest, Northeast, and Central who were voted in during
the 2012 annual meeting are serving a 1-year term due to resignations and early
ends of term and are eligible for nomination for a full 2-year term. For more
information about position responsibilities please go to the Executive Committee page on the OCA website.
The
deadline for nominations is July 15, 2013 and may be sent to the Communication
Coordinator, Andrew Hunt, at Andrew.Hunt@Sinclair.edu.
Nominees will be asked to write a short statement that will be distributed to
the membership prior to the 2013 conference. (Please note: The Executive Board
has enacted some changes to voting procedures this year.) |
